Bris – Brit Milah Photographer in London

Mazel Tov! It’s a boy!

Being a well known and highly recommended Simcha photographer in London for years I was invited to photograph the Brit-Milah ceremony of a precious newborn boy a couple of years ago for first time and since then I’ve been invited to many Bris ceremonies as a photographer. We charge a flat fee of £450 inclusive of many things, please take a look at the prices section and if you have any questions, we’ll be happy to help you out.

And something for you dear visitor who don’t know what Brit Milah is. Brit Milah is a meaningful celebration. A Jewish tradition celebrated on the eight day of a baby boy’s life. The Bris – another way to name Brit Milah is a custom originated in biblical times, and since the dawn of Judaism, it has served as a physical symbol of the Jewish faith. This Jewish lifecycle event for baby boys is held on the eighth day of life, assuming baby is healthy enough. Many parents create a celebration around the circumcision ceremony, and invite friends and family to meet the newest member of their family.

The Brit Milah ceremony bestows honors on the special people in the baby’s life who will have the opportunity to hold the child and welcome him. Sherman honors any great-grandparents in attendance and the baby’s namesake whose soul, according to Jewish tradition, is now forever intertwined with a new one. Cantor Sherman admits he is one of the funniest guys you’ll ever meet, but he leaves his shtick at home while on call.

While some families turn to doctors to circumcise their sons while still in the hospital, a traditional Bris involves a traditional mohel, who is trained in the ritual of circumcision. Mohels like Cantor Sherman perform circumcisions exclusively and on a full-time basis, and will ensure the ceremony is in accordance with Jewish law. Many mohels have done tens of thousands of circumcisions (Cantor Sherman has done over 21,000 circumcisions throughout his career!) and receive referrals from the medical community. A mohel usually circumcizes the baby in less than 15 seconds with no advanced preparations. If you don’t know a mohel, you can ask your doctor for a recommendation, or call you local Jewish community center. There’s also a helpful list here.

Brit Milah Cinematic Video

We call it “Words of Devotion” – that’s a top trend now, please get in touch, you must see it. Shortly, it’s about a short cinematic film following a script prepared and staged by both you and us. It may be grandfather, rabbi, father or all together … reading a script or speaking by heart words of advice and devotion to the newborn baby, while holding the baby as if they talk to each other. This is a unique memory to be kept secretly and be projected on their Bar Mitzvah or wedding day later on. We film with at least 2 cameras, capturing close ups, details and wide angles to complete the story. It’s priceless having in mind that some people leave our lives before our Bar Mitzvah or wedding and your boy or girl will have a great heart touching memory of them forever. Think about it, how awesome it is!

Do you shoot Cake Smash outside in London only?

Yes we do. Sometimes additional travel charge will be applied.

Do you give the digital files?

Yes we do! All of them are yours with the second and third packages, edited, print ready in hi-res, having "Home Use Rights" which means that you can print them wherever you want, or share on social media. What about the first package? Choosing the first package you're welcome to order your downloads or prints from your online gallery.

Can you hold the date for me?

We can not hold a date for you without a deposit. A nonrefundable deposit of £100 is required to reserve the date for you. Dates are filled on a first come-first served basis. So don't wait the last moment.

When can we get the images?

We try to deliver up to 2 days after the Cake Smash (sometimes same day), because we know how important for you is to enjoy and share the images with friends and relatives.

Why the photo shoot starts from your arrival?

We don't mind to give some minutes extra if that will make everyone happy, but as you know your baby's habits this is your job to pick the right time when the baby's eaten and awake. If we have to wait for an hour for the baby to have a sleep then the "extra hour" charge will apply.

How many photos do you give?

All of them! Since we photograph digitally, we do not limit the number of photos we take during your wedding day. As each party is unique, we will photograph as much as we feel necessary to capture the great moments of your baby's first birthday. On average we give more than 100 photos, all of them print ready.

Photo session in our house, can you really do that?

Yes, 90% of our Cake Smash photo shoots we do are in our clients' homes. The baby feels safe and relaxed. We have our mobile set ups easy to install. The best photos happen when the baby feels home and enjoys the smashing on all 100%.

How does the online gallery work?

How do we view our Cake Smash images? Welcome to 21st century! No viewing sessions, no time wasting and meetings! All of your photos are uploaded on a private online gallery. This gallery can be shared with friends and family across the globe. This unique service allows you the freedom to view your photos in the comfort of your own home whenever you choose. The gallery has multi purposes, it is very handy not for sharing only but as a speedy proofer when/if we start designing the baby album. Having checkout function you can easily purchase prints, which can be on paper, canvas, frames, T-shirts, puzzles, etc. and get it delivered straight to your home.

When is the final balance due?

Cash on the day, or bank transfer before the photo session day. No cheques!

What is the difference between the documentary video and cinema film?

It is a huge difference! The documentary covers the event as it unfolds with no or a minimum of edit, while the cinema uses more cameras/camera angles, following a staging script which requires ours and yours preparation, different video and sound recording equipment, different edit and finish - movie look. We highly recommend the cinema upgrade as it will give your little one an amazing stylish memory of the day when being projected as a surprise on their wedding or Bar Mitzvah day. Ask for details.

Do you provide birthday cakes?

We work with number of cake bakers but we love the look and taste of Irena's cakes because of her talent and customisation. Our clients usually order 2 cakes from her, 1 for the Smash Cake photo shoot and another for the party. Info and details in the cake's section on this page.

Are your prices too high?

We give the best price on the market for what you get because we give more and it's easy to compare with other colleagues photographers. We wont charge you extra for rights, prints, etc. because you have the edited files and you have full control on your choice of orders.

Can I order an album and how much is it?

Sure thing! Our albums are very modern, highly customisable, hand made in Italy and they're top quality and durability albums with no comparison! We can give you the final price only after having a list with your chosen photos so we can see the number of pages needed, together with your chosen customisation options like cover, boxing, lining, engravings, etc.

You'll have all the photos edited in hi-res, the same online gallery explained above plus 8 specially retouched photos, plus a bonus £50 voucher towards a baby album if you need it. We start with children first and then continue with a group family shots with the rest of the family. Some people prefer the cake smashing outside so it's totally up to you. We keep the actual cake smashing, shooting for the end, shooting with 2 cameras most of the time and letting the kids do their best. Cake smash photo sessions can get very messy so make sure that you have a spare set of clothes for you and your birthday baby. We have lots of fun during these sessions, a few images of your little one will be taken before the cake comes out so they are familiar with the camera and us. Then the cake comes in and we get smashing! We suggest booking your cake smash photography session at least two months before you want your session to take place.

Hey guys our new blog was born!

The old blog still remains alive but this one will be different.

We decided that this new blog will reflect who we are not as professionals only but as human beings, citizens, friends, etc. It will reflect who we are and what we believe in. There will be plenty of photos and videos of course but now we’ll be more focused on our clients, our brides to be and new photographers.
